Subsidized Counselling Service Program for Healthcare Professionals and Educators

Target beneficiaries:
Doctors, Nurses, Medical students, Teachers
During the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline healthcare professionals (HCPs) and educators faced immense challenges. HCPs operated in high-risk clinical settings and had to isolate themselves after long shifts, leading to feelings of loneliness and sadness. Educators were significantly affected by the adoption of new online teaching models and increased workloads. Additionally, the growing shortage of staff in these two industries worsened the mental health of these professionals.

In response to these growing mental health concerns, ReSource launched a customized counseling program in 2022 to support the wellbeing of these frontline workers.

The program provided timely, professional, and affordable counseling services to healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, and medical students) and educators. To accommodate their busy or shift-based schedules, ReSource offered additional online counseling sessions, including odd-hour and weekends options.

To further support these target groups, ReSource also established the "anti.burnout.club" social media platform. This channel raised awareness about mental health and motivated frontline professionals to utilize the counseling services to address challenges in their work, family, and personal lives.

The pilot program achieved great success, prompting ReSource to extend the initiative until 2026. Continuous funding support from the Fu Tak Iam Foundation has been crucial to the ongoing success of this comprehensive mental health recovery project.

Subsidized Counselling Service Program (Sandwich Class)

Target beneficiaries:
The program aims to provide professional psychological counselling services to the "sandwich class" - individuals, couples or families whose household incomes are too high to qualify for government or NGO assistance programs, but too low to afford ongoing private counselling.

This program was established to fill a critical service gap and ensure that members of the general population who fall into this income range can access timely, affordable and professional counselling support. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Fu Tak Iam Foundation, the program has been able to employ two regular part-time counsellors who not only see clients directly, but also contribute their expertise to our public psychoeducation efforts.

The program utilizes an income-based sliding fee scale service model to make the counselling services accessible to the target population. This ensures that individuals whose household income below $105,000 can receive the mental health support they require at rates they can afford.

The continued support of the Fu Tak Iam Foundation has been instrumental in extending this important program until January 2025. This extension will allow us to continue supporting an even greater number of individuals in the community who require access to professional mental wellness services.
